Legal Assistant - IP Litigation (Plaintiff/Defense)

Location: Downtown San Diego, CA (Hybrid)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Compensation: Up to $95,000 annually, DOE

About the Role

We're seeking a highly organized Legal Assistant to support a busy IP Litigation practice. You'll be a critical member of the team, partnering with multiple attorneys to keep cases moving efficiently-from document preparation and e-filing to complex calendaring and client communications. The ideal candidate is detail-obsessed, responsive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment handling sensitive matters with discretion.

What You'll Do

  • Document Production: Draft, format, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other litigation materials.
  • Court Filings: E-file in state and federal courts, ensuring strict compliance with rules, procedures, and deadlines.
  • Liaison & Communication: Serve as a professional point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors; accurately relay messages to attorneys.
  • Calendar Management: Coordinate and maintain attorneys' calendars, including court dates, depositions, client meetings, and key deadlines.
  • Scheduling: Arrange and confirm appointments with clients, witnesses, court reporters, and other third parties.
  • Billing & Expenses: Prepare expense reports and assist with billing-related documentation.
  • Deadline Tracking: Monitor deliverables and follow up on outstanding tasks to ensure timely completion.
  • General Support: Handle ad-hoc administrative assignments as needed.

What You'll Bring

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree a plus.
  • Experience: 5+ years of litigation support experience, preferably in a mid-size to large law firm and supporting multiple attorneys.
  • Tech Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with legal DMS (e.g., iManage).
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with litigation terminology, processes, court rules, and protocols.
  • Bonus: Direct IP and/or patent litigation experience.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid: Up to four remote days per month (policy subject to change); remaining days are in-office in downtown San Diego.
  • Culture: Professional, collaborative environment supporting high-stakes legal work.
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; overtime may be required as needed.

Compensation

  • Salary: Up to $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
